9/13/18 WAUWATOSA, WI — United States Postal Service inspectors went to great lengths to catch a postal worker accused of taking cash, gift cards and checks from a Wauwatosa residents’ mail.
Prosecutors say the worker took more than 6,000 letters from residents in two Wauwatosa ZIP codes. It was a special blue envelope that helped catch her in the act.
When residents in the neighborhood realized their greeting cards with cash inside weren’t getting delivered, the United States Postal Inspection Service began a deep dive into the mail.
According to a plea agreement, Smith admitted to stealing cash, checks and gift cards from Washington Highlands residents along her route — saying she would take “$50 to $100 per week

There are over 250,000 mail carriers in the Us and you’re bound to have a few thieves in that large of a group. What’s interesting is that she actually thought she could get away with that. She must have been a temp employee because a regular career employee wouldn’t be that stupid! LOL!
USPS Postal Carriers are not overpaid. They work in all types of adverse weather and sometimes 10 hour days to get the mail delivered. They work under stringent guidelines and timetables to make sure the mail is delivered in a timely and expeditious manner. It’s sad when a few rotten eggs can put a stench on the whole profession. I would not carry mail for all the money in the world. My hat’s off to them.
