Video: 15 postal workers hospitalized after eating leftovers from Veterans Day potluck

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -More than a dozen postal workers in Charlotte were hospitalized Thursday morning after eating leftovers from a company potluck dinner to honor veteran co-workers.

According to company officials, 15 people were rushed to the hospital from the Charlotte Logistics and Distribution Center around 6 a.m. Thursday morning.

Officials say the facility, along Lake Pointe Drive, held a potluck dinner with about 200 people on Tuesday evening. The meal was held to honor co-workers who are veterans.

Some of the food from the dinner was refrigerated overnight Tuesday.

“Employees and managers returning to work on Wednesday helped themselves to the leftovers,” officials said. “After consuming them, some complained of stomach pains.”

The USPS workers started feeling sick with symptoms including vomiting, nausea and upset stomach around 6 a.m. Fifteen employees were taken to the hospital to be treated for their pain.

Nearly 200 employees participated in the potluck dinner Tuesday evening, according to postal officials. Some of the food was refrigerated overnight and employees then ate those leftovers. After eating them, some complained of stomach pains, according to officials

Officials say the mail delivery will not be affected Thursday.
