NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) — Thursday, outside temperatures were among the hottest so far this year, as the heat index reached over 105 degrees.
A heat advisory was in place for the entire Hampton Roads area from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Eight year old Carmine McDaniel, a Newport News boy, wanted to help his mailman beat the heat. He left a cooler filled with Gatorade and water on his front porch.
“I just thought because it was really hot outside and I didn’t want him to maybe pass out or anything, because they are really important so people can pay their bills and stuff like that and I didn’t want him to pass out pretty much,” said McDaniel.
The boy’s mother sent 13News Now video of the priceless moment the mailman saw what was waiting for him on their front porch.

There is the kind of good people the mailman thinks about all year. Good people
make the mailman, and others who serve the public strive to do their best.
In my office we have some who strive to do their worst. and they succeed too most of the time
