NAPLES, FL -There was an unusual animal death in Collier County. Several chicks died Friday while being shipped to a Naples post office.
According to the Postal Service, the chicks were mailed from Minnesota. They were on their way to the Tractor Supply Company in Naples.
The company said its not clear what went wrong, but assures us shipping chicks is safe.
Thousands and thousands are shipped from these hatcheries every year and they have an extremely low mortality rate, Andrew Heltsley, marketing manager of Tractor Supply Co. said.
Its surprising, but it is legal.
Heltsley says chicks are able to survive without food or water for up to 75 hours when first born.
