Or How another competitor profits off of USPS
The U.S. Postal Service has become an extension of Amazon and is courting other e-commerce giants
July 30, 2015 – In cities such as San Francisco and New York, letter carriers have been showing up on peoples doorsteps as early as 3 a.m. bearing unusual cargo: milk, eggs, and other perishable items. The U.S. Postal Service has been delivering groceries to customers of Amazon.com in selected areas since October 2014. Its just leveraging our infrastructure, says Megan Brennan, who was sworn in as Americas 74th postmaster general in March, becoming the first woman to hold the job in the institutions 240-year history. Were on peoples doorstep six days a week, seven days a week in some cases. Its just a logical progression.
A former letter carrier from Pottsville, Pa., Brennan is trying to transform the USPS into a delivery service for the e-commerce era. That means hauling fewer letters and more packages. It means showing up with them at once-unheard-of hours and even on Sundays. Amazon is the first, Brennan says. But were obviously looking to get additional customers who are interested in that type of customized delivery.
In the meantime, the USPS is tethered to Amazon, a company that isnt just a customerits also a competitor. In cities such as New York and Washington, where the USPS is testing same-day delivery, Amazon offers a similar service. The e-tailer has its own AmazonFresh grocery delivery trucks.

Please don’t change a thing , only a matter of time the whole industry sinks!!!! I’ve prepared my family for the USPS bankruptcy
PHONY EXPRESS
But here is an idea : early incentive out, 5 day delivery , mounted delivery, CCAS deliver packages on Saturday !!!!! No brainer !!!
Obama wants to increase employment. That means working seven days a week.
If delivering more packages produces more jobs, then the economy wins.
Carrier Chuck well said, these people are blind. They need to open their EYES and wake up….All the union want’s is DUES…More people more DUES….
btw- I didn’t insert both feet in my mouth ET-10….. I have been a union steward and a carrier long enough to read between the lines on both sides
Thanks ET-10 for the info….. unfortunately the PO doesn’t follow any of those rules anymore….. it may be law, but look how screwed up this organization is….. just fyi- I am actually a letter carrier AND a union steward…… we have been pivoting in our office for over 2 years now- usually between 20-45 min/day because there isn’t as much mail anymore……things aren’t the same as they were 240 years ago…. we need to right size this organization including the carrier side by going to a 5 day delivery schedule, and requiring people to have curbside mailboxes……. the clerk side and plant employees need to adjust as well- whether that is more or less employees is up for those unions to decide…. any business that trys to do things the same forever, and never adjust with the times is going to get driven into the ground…. we will miss our next pre-funding payment in about 45 days or so, and we will miss the next one in 2016…..then things will be fine….right???? sure we are making an operating profit, but everyone- including you- seems to forget that the PO needs several billion for new vehicles (those laws talk about adequate delivery vehicles) and we owe $18 billion on an operating note that isn’t getting repaid….. so what do you suggest we do?? keep things the same as they were in the past, or actually adjust with the changing times- AND MAIL VOLUME- or do we just keep beating the drum via the unions that the pre-funding is the only thing to blame for our problems….. nice try guys, but what are you going to do to pay off the operating note and vehicles? sacrifice more on our contracts? both sides need to stop being stubborn and figure something out to balance this business….. all of our jobs depend on it, yet I’m guessing 5 years from now we will still be talking about the same issues- minus the pre funding…… and the beat goes on
PM Brennan “wants to grow the Business” but “no” to even basic Banking Services………enough said.
Isn’t that nice to just have the old USPS customers lining your silver clouds daily ? WOW, watta pud ! Take this old Service back to a full monopoly as intended Congress ! ! It’s still your full responsibility until you either save it or ruin it completely. You can’t dump it in somebody else’s lap.
no worry……I have been buying 100 shares each year of UPS and FDX for over 15 years……..going to make a nice little nest egg when I retire. I did this instead of the morons who spend a lot of money on lotto and football pools. good god are postal workers stuck in amber. they all tell me the stock market is risky, as they pay the in-house loan shark a 12% vig-go figure! just look up BPT……paying almost 12% interest. better to give that to yourself than pay a loan shark gambling debt.
We don’t even have enough mail to deliver 6 days/week anymore, yet we have CCA’s delivering groceries at 3:00 in the morning on a Sunday. WTF? This entire organization needs an overhaul from the top all the way down. It needs to be restructured and right sized workforce wise, no matter how hard the unions try to keep everything the same or return it to previous standards. It just seems that we have absolutely no direction. Of course, it’s been that way for over 200 years so i doubt it will change.
Nice try. Go somewhere else, troll. Not a carrier or any other kind of craft employee. If you are, you have no idea what your are talking about. I’d say we’re just about ‘right sized’ enough ‘workforce wise’ (who the hell are you, Frank Burns?), with the exception of you. How is losing almost 400,000 career, craft positions since 2000 keeping things the same?
As for ‘previous standards’, do you mean 1st class letter mail standards to the very people we were created to serve which there was no good reason to change other than turning us into an even bigger profit mill for the largest bulk mailers? It’s also created an overtime nightmare at processing facilities and a maintenance disaster ‘machine wise’.
Here, I’m going to give you a clue for free:

That’s federal law, on the books, as it reads today. 240 years and counting. Try getting your facts straight next time before inserting both feet into your own mouth…
Amazon is about interested in acquiring USPS non-parcel delivery as they r in acquiring newspapers or word-processors. Quit lingering in the 1980s. In reality Amazon is likely 2 end their contracts with USPS , at their convenience; as Fed Ex and USPS did. Then the parcels only downsizing the Queens P&D.C., will blow up in USPS faces. Particularly chic.Cala and Lemon-Sledyges faces.
Some “letter carrier”. She worked nine whole months as a city carrier before she wimped out and immediately got in the shadow of Pat Donahoe, her then PM and did whatever was necessary, and I don’t even want to think about that, to eventually be the PM herself. No favortism or nepotism here.
A natural progression? This is the same woman who was the guiding force behind trying to kill six day delivery and now she’s all about SEVEN day service? Well, it shows you when they get their asses kicked, management has no problem pretending they were behind whatever the new idea is all along. No scruples, principles or integrity here.
It’s just like management in the business world in all types of commerce to do nothing, get grossly overcompensated and blame others when they fuck up and take credit when things go right, usually over their dead bodies.
Brennan is a phony, the media, including the Bloomberg clip here, know jack shit and are giving praise to a leech who doesn’t deserve it. Amazon succeeds because it’s their business model that is controlling the USPS’ method of delivery, not postal management’s. That may save the Service in the long haul, but if the USPS ever privatized, don’t be shocked if you get your mail from the Amazon Postal Service.
And I’m sure the truck won’t get broken into and the carrier will be perfectly safe.
er………at a net worth of over 200 million, bill & hilderbeast clinton are in the top 1%. oh by the way their little snot nose kid has what could be called a no show job at NBC for 600K (yes 600 hundred thousand a year) and has a 10 million dollar apartment on the upper east side of NYC and is married to a evil wall street hedge fund manager……….sure make that 1 million dollar condo you mentioned look like a shack. if only you people would stop putting your head up the demonrats a@@ and read a book or two, maybe you would understand what is really going on. postal workers-sheeple dumber than dirt!
Brennan’s whole family worked for the Postal Service and she jumped into management immediately because her father was a manager in the district and yes she did whatever was necessary and Donahoe was hot for her and took her with him to every stop up the management chain.Interesting that she has never been married and Donahoe has been her only relationship with a man her whole adult life.
So USPS delivers groceries before dawn, even on Sunday. These customers r likely those, who consider a $1 million condo, as reasonably priced. In others words, the rich; the one-percenters. Unless, such deliveries r going 2 save door-to-door, six day a week delivery and restore over-night delivery standards; I totally unimpressed. However, if USPS, wants 2 play good public citizens, they might want 2 expand their delivery to poorer households, who often live miles from even a single supermarket. This would obviously also be a good enlightenment 4 Amazon, too.
