3/10/16 – Congressman Mike Simpson (R-ID 2nd District) met with local officials in Pocatello on March 10th. Simpson and local officials discussed the rise in number of inmates and jail overcrowding in the county and what a Ted Cruz presidency would mean for local federal facilities. The local officials biggest complaint was slow mail service since the closure of of the Pocatello mail processing center:
The biggest complaint commissioners had was the recent closure of the mail processing facility in Pocatello. Their concerns were not only the slow mail, but that important mail is not getting delivered in a timely manner. They worry about people awaiting important medical or legal documents that are slow in coming.
Simpson said its something hes currently working on with the U.S. Postal Service. He said he doesnt think the postal service realizes just how slow the mail has become, or the effects its had on the county since moving to Salt Lake City.
They said originally that wouldnt happen, said Simpson. That you wouldnt notice a difference in the speed or delivery of mail or anything else like that. But thats been a real problem. Its been a problem here, as the commissioners pointed out, that with mail ballots and mail-in election ballots that have to be here, are they going to get here in time to be counted?
Simpson said the mail issue is one hes going to keep working to resolve.

it is to bad postal workers did not capitalize on the corrupt, rotten, mismgt and purchase shares of FDX and UPS over their long careers. a 1000 shares of each over 30 years (UPS since 1995) was doable…………you would, with splits, have over 300K……….or more. tried to explain the meaning of the term “hedge” to people but postal workers are not ones who try and grab the brass ring. most seem postalized and waiting for democrats to save them. some came in with no money and 40 years later going out with no money. go figure. Donald Trump turned a million dollar loan from his Father into 10 Billion, I turned $25,000 of OT into $400K.
We all know the Postal Service is doing every thing management can do to destroy the service. And Congress started the decline in 2006 with the Postal Destruction and Dismantling Act! Ex President Forrest Gump and Congress forced the Postal Service to pre fund health care. No one else in the world has such a requirement! People know what is going on, but don’t care. Just give the people guns, god and sports and the public is sedated.
We provide lips service, too.
The tools and thugs know exactly what they are
doing: ruining a treasured institution for their
own gain!! Bonuses based on fixed figures, six figure
useless jobs, numerous people doing the same job
under different job assignments, engineers who
can’t fix their way out of a wet paper bag and on and
on we go. The craft employees are holding things
together because WE CARE. FIRE THE TOOLS AND THUGS
the pre funding is a canard…………..the PO is just a rotten, corrupt, quasi-government boondoggle lol. quasi my a@@, a full blown termite infested govt agency, rotten to the core like the VA Hospital System-that also has a corrupt bonus system………..which Trump said he will stop his first day in office. he said VA heads will roll. good for him-has my vote.
Where were you when they wanted to close it in the beginning and what does Ted Cruz have to do with this? If it wasn’t for Congresses lame brain 2006 Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act—an incredible piece of ugliness requiring the Post Office to PRE-PAY the health care benefits not only of current employees, but also of all employees who’ll retire during the next 75 years. Yes, that includes employees who’re not yet born! No other agency and no corporation has to do this. Worse, this ridiculous law demands that USPS fully fund this seven-decade burden by 2016. Imagine the shrieks of outrage if Congress tried to slap FedEx or other private firms with such an onerous requirement. This politically motivated mandate is costing the Postal Service $5.5 billion a year—money taken right out of postage revenue that could be going to services.” You helped create this mess so your a little late now acting like your so concerned. I smell a political rat worried that Cruz or Trump might win. That’s what your really concerned about, right? Oh and P.S. Where’s the prepayment money? The same place the Social Security money is I bet?
How about authoring a bill that will put a stop to postal management’s lame brained plan to further erode service in their race to the bottom?
Another wasted meeting. The post office knows how slow things have become, but doesn’t care. the main concern is they are doing more with less and on time service doesn’t matter. And if enough people complain then they change the delivery standards and at that point show with numbers all is good.. Nothing will change unless Congress fires all of upper management and replace them with people who are proud of the old Postal Service and will bring it back to the original standards . BT W WILL NEVER HAPPEN BECAUSE Congress can’t decide on anything.
