Video: Lazy USPS Driver throws heavy box with hard drive against garage

http://youtu.be/IzhLv0NN5oc

From the owner of the video that has gone viral:

Just a few clarifications, since I’m getting a lot of hate:

This video is real, the van belongs to a rural mail carrier working for the USPS.

This is not the first time this has happened, there have been plenty of instances where mail was delivered like this (see links below), and I even reported it before. In this specific instance, I don’t think there was any damage caused by this drop (having trouble with the drive, but hopefully not related), but it wouldn’t be the first time something got damaged. If you watch carefully, you can see the door being pushed in.

Yes, I understand boxes can go through rough(er) handling while in transit, but that’s not the point, not to mention being dropped on top of another box or conveyer belt is not the same thing.

I have been contacted by the USPS, so hopefully things will calm down now.

To the organizations interested in buying the rights to the video: I’m not interested in selling this video. It was just a small story to tell, and there is a lot more important stuff going on in the world. I thank you for your interest, but I can’t release copyright.

i hope this get gets written up for what he did, and his driver should get written up too

  2. That is NOTHING! I work at a Processing and Distribution Center (P&DC) with an APPS: Automated Package Processing System. In it is a “destacker.” It’s basically a 45 degree downward sloped section followed by a 45 degree upward sloped section. The total drop/incline is around 3 feet. The goal of this portion of the machine is to unstack parcels and bundles of magazines so that they are in a single layer.

The downside of this design is that square packages tend to roll down the inclined section ad infinitum. The ONLY way they stop rolling is when a larger package comes up from behind and locks them into moving up the belts so they can get past this portion of the machine to be processed and sorted.

Keep in mind that the weight limit on this machine for a package is 25 pounds.

So, picture this: your valued package is going through the destacker and gets pummeled by a bowling ball that is rolling around and around in the valley of it while trying to stay in its square packaging. Not only do other packages get smashed but frequently the rolling packing material gives out and the contents go spewing out onto the belts. Only to be lost along the sorting highway.

I see it all the time. Boxes labeled “FRAGILE!” or flats envelopes containing photographs labeled “DO NOT BEND!” I have to laugh. There is NO WAY the machines knows what fragile is, much less treat any package differently from any other.

If people ONLY knew, they would add LOTS more bubble wrap, foam peanuts, packing tape, etc. to their mailings. I only WISH I could video the machine in action and put it up on YouTube but I like my job and don’t want to get fired.

Maybe I’ll do it the day before I retire. 😉

  3. Its a RR Carrier,,,, What do you expect,,,, As long as they get off before their evaluated time thats all that matters 🙂

  4. Sorry dude, but if you watch just the garage door there is absolutely no movement at all. Clearly nothing happened to the garage door. As for the package, looks like a pretty harmless landing to me. Much to do about nothing!

  5. as a carrier myself i see Absolutely nothing wrong with this handling of that package
he didn’t shot-put it he gently rolled it up against the door!!! i have seen worse
inside the plant/po some of our dist/clerks can shot put a package into a specific carrier’s route parcel buggy/cart from 30/40ft away and 1/2 way accross workroom floor..the bottom line the parcel was never insured and sold as dirt-cheap transit..we pay no attention to any such placard warning s for special handling do not bend fragile ect…. if u want those features PAY FOR THEM!!!! they are not free and why we are cheaper to ship than da likes of UPS/FEDEX… you HAVE NO CHOICE in ala carte
it’s inclusive with them but at a set higher than USPS cost no matter where u live!!!
u get exactly what u paid for media/mail parcel post is jus that no special handling even priority mail… if u want special handling pay for it either black/blue insureance labeling!!!

  6. APWU says that they march in protest of Staples handling US citizens precious mail and then BAM…this comes along. Must’ve been maneements fault for overworking these poor employees!

  7. The door being pushed in ? Don’t think it was as bad as that. Pushed in you say !!!
The door may have rattled a bit, but pushed in a a stretch….Just lets focus on the parcel being dropped. Stating the actual facts is better than stretching the truth…
