— Some Long Island residents think the U.S. Postal Service’s motto needs to be revised.
That’s because snow, rain and gloom of night have been getting in the way of their mail deliveries.
And that’s not all: They say they’re not getting mail on perfect weather days either, CBS 2’s Carolyn Gusoff reported exclusively on Monday.
Debbie Resnick finally had mail delivered on Monday, for the first time since Wednesday. She said she’s been stood up by the postman five days this month.
Resnick and her neighbors were incredulous that the Postal Service has been skipping days — and not just snow days.
“The sun was shining and we didn’t get any mail Thursday, Friday and Saturday,” Resnick said.
“My neighbors are all complaining and it’s unheard of. I keep looking thinking it’s even coming at 9 o’clock at night, but it doesn’t come at all,” Vera Zarenva of Manhasset Hills.
New Hyde Park Post Office has been hearing many complaints, including missing mail and late-night deliveries that have gone on for months.

Samuel I am a carrier who trains newly hired carriers. The USPS demands that we take all obvious shortcuts between delivery points, in effect cutting across customer’s lawns. If a carrier is observed by mangement not crossing a lawn he/she could face disciplinary action. Save your anger and call your Post Office, ask to speak to a manager and unload on them. Then write a note saying you don’t want us walking across your lawn for our files.
Vito teachers make over 100,000.00 and cops make over 150,000.00….

…..and one last comment. I don’t hear anyone complaining about LIs high paid and compensated teachers,(who work how many days a year) and school districts closing down or have late opening when there are 2 inches of snow on the ground. All paid for by our tax dollars, monies which do not support the USPS
As an EAS employee, all I have to say is walk a day in the postal approved shoes of a Letter Carrier and see what it is to do a days work. A Letter Carrier represents the USPS, its pride and its service to the people of this country. Ms Resnick and Ms Gusoff, a mail bag, uniform, managements pressure and 10 inces of snow awaits you to experience being a letter carrier. Without adoubt you wont make the first 2 relays

Nick-The dismantling and lowering of service standards did not start with the pre-fund in ’06,it is part of the plan that Donahoe put in place 10 years ago under Potter called the “Transformation Plan” that was designed to outsource operations and set up the Postal Service for privatization,Donahoe was going to to this when he was appointed PMG regardless of the pre-fund and lower revenues.
This should be getting the attention of the Board of Governors, OIG and other groups one would think could hold management’s feet to the fire, but then that thought would be from somebody outside the system who used logic and common sense in their line of reasoning.
The USPS doesn’t work that way. Prefunding the retirement requirements have certainly put the system into a horrible situation, but this constant complaining of customers not getting mail for as long as a week at a time is inexcusable. It is way past time for some sort of investigation into this problem by a body not accountable to management or the PMG. There has never been nor will there ever be a Postmaster General as terrible and corrupt as Pat Donohoe. From making sweetheart deals with standard mail interests to being Darryl Issa’s butt boy to being incapable of getting mail delivered to far too many customers is reason enough for his removal, but nobody seems to care.
The more public outcry and media interest the better. Employees of the USPS are not allowed to go public and tell the real story, instead being relegated to anonymity on the web, where only a handful of people might see their comments and then ignore them. So if you’re suffering from terrible service, your best bet is talking to the media and your elected officials. Calling the PO will get you nowhere, trust me. You can’t believe one word management tells you.
Unfortunately for these folks, the only people that USPS eas/mgmt hates more than it’s employees, are it’s customers.
EAS/mgmt considers them a nuisance, at best.
John, I work extra hard on keeping my lawn in tip top shape,I spend plenty of time caring for it like many other people do, what gives you the right to walk across my lawn to deliver my mail, do your job and do it correctly and STAY THE HELL OFF MY LAWN!!!!!!!!!!

this is a national problem created by donahue and the team he put together. FSS is a failure and they are responsible for the fall-out it has created. closing processing facilities throughout the country was a colossal blunder. every station in america starts later because of it, which serves no one, especially the customer. it all starts with the pre-fund of 2006.

Not going on where I am…We are out late because of the snow covered lawns and we can’t cut across them…It’s going to take longer when you can’t cut across the lawn…I am out east on the Island and there is alot of offices out deliverying mail late because of the covered lawns and not enough coverage…..Residents need to understand that…Also Guy you are a disgruntled postal worker who wanted to be in the Long Island District or a PM but you burned your bridges….Just one question are you in management or craft….
