CONYERS, Ga. Some letter carriers in Conyers went out of their way for a special delivery this week. It wasn’t a letter or a package — it was a person.
Letter carrier Diane Muscarello had just put mail in a box when a black truck with three young men cut her off. She was alarmed. They were asking about a house number. No street, just a number.
They had found an elderly woman lost on the road, and all she knew about her home address was a number.
“They saw her fall so they pulled over to see if she was OK,” Muscarello said.
The woman was Russian, so Muscarello called another letter carrier, Kay Shumate, who figured out which house on her route had that number and a Russian family.
“Kay went to their house and knocked on their door to see if they did have a visitor visiting them for the holiday,” Muscarello said.
The two carriers and three young men brought the elderly woman home to a teary-eyed reunion.
