After 25 years of service, postmaster says mailboxes are now too short
HEPHZIBAH, G.A. (WRDW)– An entire neighborhood could soon lose mail service if they don’t change their mailboxes. The local post master claims nearly a hundred mailboxes in the Saddlebrook neighborhood are too short for mail delivery. The U.S. Post Office has been delivery mail to those homes for twenty-five years.
Alfred Hunt isn’t usually loss for words. “Okay. Okay. What else can I say?” he said. Hunt didn’t know what to think when he pulled a letter from the U.S.P.S. out of what he believes is his perfectly good mailbox.
“I’ve been informed by the Hephzibah Post Office that I have to raise it six to nine inches.” Hunt said. Raise his mailbox or else. “Or my mail will be discontinued,” he said. Read more
i agree. as a retired carrier i refused to deliver to mailboxes that are too short. raise it up or no delivery. period!
Just another Postmaster trying to justify his/her position. That’s right…. what will happen with the new postal vehicles?
what was the height of his box?
what happens when the knew trucks come out? move the box.
Should have everyone put up a curbside box anyway….. save the PO ALOT of $
For years Rural delivery was out of the carriers own vehicle. Now most of them have LLV’s and they are seated higher. Hence the need for higher mailboxes.
This is BULL***!!!
The requirement for rural curbside mailboxes reads: “The height must be 36 to 42 inches from ground level to the bottom of the box & 18 inches from the curb.” And their saying 49 inches??? What a …..!!!
Tell the people of that town to call their local state representative to put a stop to it.
This sounds like just another ploy 4 USPS 2 gradually get out the letters and magazine(flats) deliveries. And there is no one in D.C. 2 remind them and require them 2 fulfill their primary purposes. “Deliver the letter–the sooner the better”. Neither the D.C. legislature, nor our national unions.
Just move the box. Why do people always want to get into a pissing match with the Postal Service?
Raise your box or if not Betcha the PO will do it for you at no cost! . I agree with postal guy people love to fight the PO.
And if he doesn’t help out the PO someday he won’t be getting mail period!
