Mysterious spy cameras collecting data at post offices
DENVER Within an hour of FOX31 Denver discovering a hidden camera, which was positioned to capture and record the license plates and facial features of customers leaving a Golden Post Office, the device was ripped from the ground and disappeared.
FOX31 Denver investigative reporter Chris Halsne confirmed the hidden camera and recorder is owned and operated by the United State Postal Inspection Service, the law enforcement branch of the U.S. Postal Service.
The recording device appeared to be tripped by any vehicle leaving the property on Johnson Road, but the lens was not positioned to capture images of the front door, employee entrance, or loading dock areas of the post office.
An alert customer first noticed the data collection device, hidden inside a utilities box, around Thanksgiving 2014. It stayed in place, taking photos through the busy Christmas holidays and into mid-January.
A spokesperson for Postal Inspection Service declined to address the specific reason for the domestic surveillance, but admitted the agency had a number of cameras at their disposal.

Not funny, had the USPS spent some monies for a lobby security camera, my window clerk would not have had to pay out almost $1,000.00 due to a money order scam. There really is a place and time for everything. The trick is, all about the timing, don’t you think??
These cameras are all over. The NSA is collecting data from the local traffic and police car cameras. They read licence plate data and basically keep track of the coming and goings of your car. Couple that with the metadata from your cellphone, the NSA constructs an algorithm that represents who you are via your travels and association. Marry that with your debit/credit card data, they have most everyone of us pigeon holed as to our threat to them and society.
Interesting story but just a small inconsequential slice about what the state collects about us.
That about sums it up! The Postal Service will lie, cheat or make up stuff to make someone look to be something they’re not! I was advised to CMA while challenging the “Zero Tolerance” policy by few 30+ year Post Masters. That has to tell you something….they just haven’t figured out who I am (yet).
(CMA)= Cover My Ass
It’s also good to know that the post office consistently claims poverty to Congress, the media, and the unions but it has enough money for golden parachutes, the pay-for-performance program, and spying devices.
“Declined to address specific reason..” and “… a number of cameras at their disposal.” Well, i guess that makes it okay then. See? A perfectly innocent and reasonable explanation. Mystery solved.
