Video: OIG Audit – San Francisco postal distribution center ‘inefficient’ and ‘overstaffed’

(November 20, 2014) SAN FRANCISCO – A new audit from the US Postal Service Office of Inspector General says the San Francisco Processing and Distribution Center is inefficient and overstaffed. The report, released Thursday, calls for the center to drastically reduce work hours for hundreds of employees to save millions of dollars.

Despite the report’s findings, the sign outside the center located on Evans Street says, “We Are Hiring.”

The OIG report recommends eliminating more than 486-thousand work hours by having 280 employees retire to save $21 million. But US Postal Service Management is questioning the math and is not alone.

KTVU –

“If they’re questioning the figures, so am I,” said San Francisco American Postal Workers Union President Geoffray Dumaguit. He says the union has challenged past OIG reports at the national level.

“A lot of times the data are not accurate,” said Dumaguit. He claims pictures within the report are also misleading. Some show overstaffed machines and idle employees.

  1. Some of these local Union ISIS Cheif stewards who treat members bady is losing members.

It’s where you can’t even vote the way you wish to without pissing these clowns off cause you don’t agree with them or something.

Losing members so my advice to the Unions clean it up! Got that Anaheim P&DF!

  2. $56,741 does not go to far in San Francisco or New York City. 1% raise with 7% true inflation-you will have to work 100 years .$46K in retirement with no social security for CSRS……….and don’t even think about taking your cats food. on another topic, does Postmaster General really need 45 Vice-President to yank his chain? let OIG look into that crime.

    • we have people working in their late eighties…….just waiting for the embalmer. manual case section looks like a nursing home. its always next year in Israel lol. heck half of them have 50 year old dead beat children they are supporting…….never left the basement!

  3. No one in CSRS is going to retire……why would they? We’re all KMA, we all get what want with seniority, no one has to work that hard….in other words, EASY MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you would be a fool to leave

  4. Yes indeed, WHAT A JOB!

From the start, hundreds of years ago with the Constitution giving to deliver to the American people a means of communicating! By the American people! From sea to shining sea! Our system the best the world has ever know!

    Indeed What A Job!

A tip of the hat…your most welcome.

  5. May I suggest the OIG ….Go to Headquarters and tell me what them stupid a… in Management are doing or not doing? Ha, Ha, Ha…..

  6. OK ~~~ 486 THOUSAND hours may be a stretch but I’ll bet 386 Thousand would be an easy target.

  7. WOW…Too many union loving workers doing nothing…That’s amazing….Let me guess, most of you will blame management….

    • Donahoe himself had commented at one time that the USPS needed 7500 MORE managers. Why not just have a supervisor for every individual employee? Gee, I’d like to have a pal ride with me every day criticizing every move I make. Can’t you just hear it?
“Do you really think you need to take a lunch break?”
“I don’t believe you need to pee (again) so I’m following you in.”
“The truck can go 30 miles on empty.”
“I didn’t give you approval to put names of new customers in your boxes.”
“Point that fan back at me. You don’t need it, you have a window.”
“Do you have to sort your parcels in delivery order?”
“I don’t want to stop at Taco Bell for lunch.”
“I can do better than this but I’m not allowed to.”

  8. Let’s make something really clear here for the CSRS eligible in that it only means that.

30/55 yrs is going to only get your eligible foot in the door at about 56% of ones base pay. 2% more added on to ones base pay up to 80% each yr.

So one is eligible to make his/hers minds up. IMO go for the 80% as much as you can.

If there are buyouts coming? It would take around $39K today’s money to make up for the $25K in buyouts of the past due to inflation. I wouldn’t do it for under a yrs base pay, but that’s me. Them oldtimers were right when I asked them back in the 80’s why they stayed working? They said they Stayed for themselves to sweeten the pot, they weren’t jumping threw the hoops anymore. They had relaxed smiles I wish I had. Now I earned that smile myself and it feels good want to relish it as LONG as I can. It’s about ME now

    • preach on whomever you are…………..

how dare the IG office tell somebody to retire, or even suggest that some retire from their jobs unless they are good and ready to go………..I have 35 years, just turned 55 and you think im gonna give up my 4 more years before I get to the max 80% finish line just to help somebody make a budget?????

oh helllsss nawww-if I am CSRS, and that is the agreement that I started work under, you best believe that im gonna see this as far as I can take it…………..40 yrs, 50 yrs-what the hell ever, as long as I feel like working……………..

      • It is 41 years 11 months to relieve 80% of you high 3…base pay….no OT,no night diff, only if you are a higher level.(example, level 5 from a 4 mailhandler)
