ALBUQUERQUE —Inspectors with the United States Postal service seized a large amount of stolen mail connected to a number of mailbox thefts in Albuquerque.
Since January, inspectors have been investigating a series of mail thefts around Albuquerque. Thieves have been hitting community mailboxes, mail trucks and mail carriers.
“In March, inspectors recovered numerous pieces of stolen mail from a hotel room in Albuquerque,” said Postal Inspector Stephanie Herman in a notice sent to victims targeted in some of the thefts.
Inspectors wouldn’t tell Action 7 News how the letters were recovered, but said that the seizure has helped investigators narrow in on suspects.
The Post Office says customers should not put mail in an outside collection box after after the final pickup time listed in the box, because the box is unattended overnight.
