Video: Postal Police, USPS Communications Official at APWU StopStaples Demonstration

As reported earlier on Chicago Postal Workers Demonstrate Against USPS Partnership With Staplesthe article noted the presence of USPS Communications specialist Mark Reynolds. Now a video [thanks to APWU member Rich Shelley via 21st Century Postal Worker] shows Postal Police at the Staples protest. Postal Police at a Staples store??? A $62,000+ a year USPS Communications official monitoring protesters??? Unlike the postal police and USPS official the protesters were demonstrating on their own time. More protests against Staples are planned on April 24, 2014. See StopStaples.com

ELMWOOD PARK, Ill. (CBS) – Roughly 200 postal workers and supporters picketed Saturday afternoon in front of a suburban Staples store, demonstrating against the postal service partnership with the office supply chain to provide some mail services.

“The public will not have their mail protected like they should, their privacy protected, so this is not a good deal for the customer and it is not a good deal for the workers because it is replacing overtime and living wage jobs, which postal jobs are, with low wage, poverty jobs and that is not good for the workers, it is not good for our neighborhoods, it is not good for our country,” said Mark Dimondstein, the president of the APWU.

He said if the Postal Service had it’s way, it would privatize everything it does.

(Mark) Reynolds says the Postal Service has no intention of privatizing and that they will evaluate the pilot program in September.

  1. OMG…those “cops” were terrified of that steward. Wow…I’m with the APWU and we’re filing charges! That struck fear into the hearts of those “cops.” Another grandiose photo opp! I’m sure this will result in hundreds of jobs posted for the lemmings! Wonder if the guy threatening charges had his salary compensated with union dues that day? Hmmmm….

  2. Even the retirees who think we are out of focus are in-direct scope of the congress-controlled and led believers of strip the service and get new employees. For 8-9 dollars an hour your mail may never get to you. Guess what those non-believers then will say I had nothing to do with it…..Stupid says; Silence is an affirmation when professional crooks are out to get you and take yours.
All of us are targets when they come, even Bubba in the midwest who won’t don’t believe Jesus rode a Jack, simply because he never saw Jesus ride pass his door! Truly sad. Get out and fight for our rights to keep what we earned.

  3. The employees making 8 or 9 bucks an hour could not be any more inept than our clerks. I am all for it.

  4. Great job my union brothers and sisters!!!! I wish more members would get involved and fight back!!!!! I work in Hbg, Pa P&DC and the mentality is ” Nothing’s gonna happen and I have enough seniority”.. I tell them, when we’re totally privatized, you’re seniority ain’t gonna mean shit.. Because Issa and Donahue want to strip our collective bargaining rights!!!!! WAKE-UP folks!!!REPUBLICANS want to cut all Federal employees benefits and pensions ( Just read REP. Ryan’s federal budget for 2015 ) Remember, that moron was the Vice President candidate.. Republicans have brain – washed the American people in thinking we’re broke, we’re not deserving our wages and benefits, and will have to Bail us out.. It’s all Bullshit and a manufactured crisis!!!! Even Sen. Carper ( Democratic Chairman of a Postal committee ) is believing Donahue”s Bullshit..

  5. Gestapo tactics! what’s new? “Ain’t got nuthin’ do with me!” Good answer Sherlock! Tell it on the Congressional floor!

  6. The jackbooted thugs in postal mgmt show their true colors.

Sorry you criminals in mgmt/eas; in the rest of the US, free speech is still a right.

  7. We all need to do this across the country on the same day.
It’s the only way to get National attention. The sooner the better.
With the help of other Unions it would be even better.
