The mail carrier, 40-year-old Edmund Hagerty of Whitman, was delivering packages Sunday night when he allegedly hit Amy Conlin.
Conlin, who was hospitalized after the crash, went out into the street to stop the driver according to a police report.
“Because of the bumps in the road you could tell he was speeding, and when he came down, he was revving and he came down and Amy Conlin, my neighbor, stood out front so he couldn’t go any further,” Mary Ficociello said,
The police report says Hagerty and Conlin got into a fight, and that’s when he swerved the mail truck toward her before hitting the gas and driving into her.

According to police, Hagerty took off his shirt and ran through backyards to get away, but police eventually found him. They also say they found a 25 oz. beer can in a cooler in his truck.

Hagerty, who does not have a previous criminal record, reportedly told police he was “stressed out about his workload.” Read more

  1. Maybe it is time for this carrier to seek help. When people drink, sometimes the problem advances to the point that they need to drink to avoid shaking and falling to pieces. Absent a dependency problem, I can’t imagine a carrier drinking while driving a delivery vehicle.

After he gets out of jail, maybe he will seek help if that is the problem.
