6/15/2016 ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Union workers picketed outside the downtown Post Office Tuesday. They’re upset that the mail sorting machines, which are supposed to have two workers operating them, are consistently only staffed with one person.
The Postal Service says that’s allowed according a provision in the union contract. The Union says that provision is being overused.
“The Postal Service already has a binding agreement with the APWU, as I said earlier, that stipulates two is standard, one is acceptable.” said U.S. Postal service spokesperson Valerie Welsch.
“They can run one person on a short district, on a small district, but the problem is the districts that they’re using right now with open person are some of the biggest districts in the city. said Fred Wolfmeyer President, St. Louis Gateway Local 8, American Postal Workers Union.
