SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — Demonstrators gathered outside the National Postal Forum convention at Moscone Center in San Francisco Monday to protest a cut in Saturday mail service and a loss of jobs.

The Postmaster General said he is optimistic about the future of the United States Postal Service and that his business is facing trying times just like any company right now. He added that they’re trying to make responsible decisions in the face of big losses. In fact, they’ve lost 27 percent of mail volume.

Postal workers and their supporters are taking an aim at Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe and talking to companies that send a lot of mail about how to reach more customers. The postal workers are worried about the dismantling of the postal service, closures of smaller branches and the post service’s plan to cut Saturday delivery service.

  1. An impressive showing indeed. Liked how walkers-by added their voice to the nearly 12 actual postal employees that showed up. The unions were inside the convention floor trading pins and eating at the buffet line.

  2. There are many problems that the unions create. They allow employees to stand around and wait because there is no work in part of the building. There may be work somewhere else, but I often hear the words “That’s not my job”.
The other side of the coin is that a union job increases the standard of living for it’s members. In the case of the Postal Service, if you live in a small town you are probably doing well for yourself. When I lived in L.A. it was hard to make ends meet if I wanted a decent neighbor hood to live in, unless I had a roommate or until I was married.

Unions and their members need to consider that making yourself an asset and not a liability is the best thing to preserve your job. Machines can only perform one function, while a person can do many.

  3. Yeah, ask Hostess employees oh, sorry, FORMER Hostess employees who followed their union, over the cliff…..Problem is, unions don’t deal in REALITY, and do the membership no favors in trying to still keep the status quo, especially when said “quo” was 50 years ago….

  4. Just proves how arrogant his royal majesty King DONAHOE really is. I only hope he had a nice time spending money he does not have. I must say his royal majesty could have found the time to mail us a post card. And I want to know how the executive only gym is working out? The next time we travel to Washington D.C. every employee should use it.

  5. We should have National Postal Dildo Week!!!
Everybody send a dildo to Donahoe as a representation of the way he is running the Post Office.
