BUCHANAN DAM, Texas (KXAN) — Authorities say 16 Central Texas post offices have been hit by thieves since right before Christmas.
Postal inspectors said cameras are currently being installed at locations in hopes of catching the culprit and deterring them from trying to break in again.
Locations in Florence, Liberty Hill, Salado, Hutto have been hit twice.
Officials said the thefts are happening in the Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth area as well and believe it is a broader issue, not just one or two people.
The most recent theft happened at a post office in Hillsboro, located between Waco and the metroplex.
At the post office in Buchanan Dam, four boxes were pried open sometime over the weekend.
