11-23-2014 – BUFFALO, N.Y. – Last week’s early blast of winter weather hampered mail delivery in hard hit areas and other parts of Western New York, but the postal service is working to get things back to normal.
Staff worked this weekend to catch up on sorting, and there was even limited delivery Sunday in other areas to reduce the backlog of letters and packages due to the snowstorm.
The West Seneca and Orchard Park post offices will be open and accepting mail starting Monday.
“Thousands of pieces of mail that were coming into the area [before the storm] were backlogged. Now we are catching up on that mail and new mail that’s coming into the area,” said Karen Mazurkiewicz, USPS spokesperson.
No mail came into the Buffalo region for several days because of the Thruway closure. Some local mail was still being delivered.
