(September 30, 2014) The Postal Service began a test in the San Francisco area this past August to see if delivering packages in the early morning hours was feasible.
The Postal Service has since filed a request with the with the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) to conduct a two-year market test of customized delivery of groceries and other prepackaged goods.
With PRC approval, the test would begin on or shortly after October 24 and expand nationwide with a focus on major metropolitan cities.
I was afraid for him, delivering in the wee hours of the morning. Verify this with the constitution. This is what desperate looks like.
The homeless guy living under the bridge will eat good. all he has to do is follow the mailman at 330 am and watch where they leave the package of food. Eventually some poor mailman will probably either get robbed or shot while out there so early in the morning. Law enforcement will be bothered and so will the people who are asleep during these hours. What about residences that are in a gated community, or in bad neighborhoods. What about loose dogs or animals running around late at night and who will answer the phones at the post office that early. In most stations at least in Florida no one ever picks up the phone. I understand the postal service is looking for ways to survive, but how much profit are we talking about. C.C.A.’s working, supervisors working, vehicles running costing additional gas. Someone in the big house needs to get off their high horses and grow some backbone. you won’t see any postmaster or area manager out that early. Good luck to those carriers who get stuck on this shift. They will need it. Poor management and union cooperation.
how safe is it without that camera light?
I agree with ND. I see major safety concerns delivering this stuff in the middle of the night, especially in high crime areas. I don’t want to see any more carriers getting killed. At least set it up where delivery is done in the daytime.
I would buy stock in Amazon asap, i predict they will eventually deliver thier own packages cutting out the middle man.
I thought they wanted us off the street by 5:00 because they were actually concerned for our safety during darkness. Now we have started a new service were we deliver in the dark. I actually thought they were concerned about the carriers…..not.
Let’s see if the eggs make it from the store to the customer
