Video: USPS Packages Go Missing or Undelivered

COLUMBUS (Brooks Jarosz) — Several viewers have claimed the U.S. Postal Service is slow, late and unreliable, so ABC 6 Investigators started asking questions and holding the government accountable.

James Baker wants to keep his ride running, so he ordered a manual for his car online. But after two weeks, he’s still waiting by his mailbox.

“When you don’t get answers, you get really mad,” Baker said. “I mean there were points of rage.”

Baker is upset because this marks the third package that hasn’t shown up. He’s tracked all three shipments time and time again. Two of them, according to the USPS website, say there were delivered. The third is still in limbo.

Baker says he went to the nearby post office four different times and came home with nothing.

“The simple fact that you can lose three packages in one day and have zero accountability for it and you can keep your job – it worries me,” Baker said.

  1. Let’s be for real. Missing packages are more common because the Postal Service has just about eliminated bulk mail inspection. The Postal Service in its divine wisdom has determine that they can save work hours by employees’ duties (i.e. bulk mail inspections) by accepting the mailers’ number and weight calculations without verification. I ordered a replacement magic jack and have been waiting four weeks for it. The Postal Service doesn’t have a record of the tracking number and magic jack keep trying to tell me to call them. I am a retired bulk mail clerk so I know what I am talking about.

  2. Doesn’t do any good to file anything. My on has a package that shows that it has been sitting at the post office in MI since march. No one knows where it went. He was told to just get his money back for a wheel that he ordered. He didn’t want his money he wanted the hard to find wheel for a moped that he had.No one knows where it is. How does a wheel fall out (weighing 10 lbs) fall out of a box and no one sees it? WTH??

  3. hey folks I know where this mans car manual is. just look in the big steel dumpster behind the 7/11 store on this carriers route. you will find shredded parcel along with manual. look across the street and sitting in a little postal truck you will find a casual carrier in plainclothes eating a bag of cheetos and smiling at you. welcome to the USPS.

  4. Reminds me of one customer that was mad because his packages kept coming up missing when they had been scanned delivered. He found them in the neighbor’s back yard where the neighbor’s dog took them to shred.

Another customer had packages scanned delivered and wanted to know what was going on. The carrier said to tell him to check his mail box once in a while. He had not even looked in his mail box in over a week. He found all of his packages there.

The USPS us a very large company and there are going to be some bad eggs. But most of us are responsible professionals.

  5. So how does this scientist decide who should lose their job because his auto repair manual didn’t show up? It’s unfortunate that your parcel is lost but don’t act like someone kidnapped your baby. People are clamoring for downsizing, now live with the results. Poorly trained and abused temp employees, and “high speed” equipment that eats a good portion of what it sorts. Enjoy life in the new America.

  6. Happens everyday all over the country…In order for managers to keep out of hot water with District, they scan all packages that show up on received in office but no other action taken as delivered. They do this to improve delivery stats, basically falsifying records in order to make their office look good…Problem is some of the packages are stolen or misdelivered but it’s impossible to tell since there is no accountability with current procedures.

  7. Why would you be “holding the government accountable”? This is the usps, not the “government”. Oh, I get it. It’s sweeps week, so you have to pretend your little tv station is really doing something and taking a stand!!

  8. What if the packages were delivered and were stolen from the front door? Next time try with a signature confirmation.

  9. Three packages and all “lost”? Has the buyer made SURE the delivery address is correct? It still amazes me how many people never bother to get their correct usps mailing address. They “think” they know it but many times do not. It’s easily checked at usps.com for the offical usps address. Three lost packages sounds a bit fishy to me.

  10. Gee, according to mgmt., packages are the USPS future.

Leave it up to them to screw this up too.
