EASTVILLE — A woman who embezzled money from the Cape Charles post office will serve five days in jail.
Shamane Stephens, 42, of Norfolk, has paid restitution of $769.89, the amount a post office investigator estimated to have been stolen.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Bruce Jones said the woman voided the sale after a customer made a cash purchase of stamps and kept the money.
“She did it many times,” said Jones and repaid some, but not all, of the money when she got a paycheck.
“She was employed with the U.S. Postal Service for 12 years and made an astounding amount of money,” said Commonwealth’s Attorney Bruce Jones. “She embezzled over a period of five months.”
