RIP young lady

CALEDONIA, Wisconsin – On Monday 11/03/14 at approximately 3:37p.m. the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a 911 reporting a single motor vehicle crash on Old County Highway U Road approximately .3 miles south of Potter Rd. in the Town of Caledonia. It was further reported that the operator and only occupant had been ejected from the vehicle and was not breathing. While emergency responders were en-route to the scene, civilian bystanders were performing CPR on the victim.

The victim, Jessica D. Halverson, 22 from the City of Portage, Wisconsin was pronounced deceased at the scene. The vehicle involved in the crash was a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer sport utility vehicle. (Halverson is a USPS rural carrier)

Preliminary investigation at the scene indicates the 2001 Chevrolet Blazer was traveling northbound on Old County Highway U Road when the vehicle left the roadway to the right. The vehicle continued off the roadway for approximately 400 feet before coming back onto the roadway. The vehicle crossed the roadway and left the roadway to the left, entering a steep ditch and cornfield and overturned, ejecting the victim from the vehicle. The vehicle came to rest on its wheels approximately 30 yards off the roadway in a plowed farm field.

The crash remains under investigation by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and Columbia County Medical Examiner’s Office. Halverson was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Alcohol and Speed does not appear to be a factor.

According to the release, Halverson was driving from the right front passenger seat because she was a rural route delivery person with the U.S. Postal Service.
