Chief Information Security Officer to leave USPS for private sector

chuckmcgann-150x150The chief information security officer for the United States Postal Service is leaving government for an undisclosed position in the private sector, the USPS confirmed to FedScoop Tuesday.

The agency did not announce McGann’s departure date.

“After 27 years of dedicated service, Chuck McGann is retiring from the Postal Service,” USPS spokesman Dave Partenheimer said in a statement to FedScoop.

According to Partenheimer, as part of his job, McGann was responsible for overseeing the information security of one of the largest technology networks maintained by any organization in the world.

McGann’s departure comes just eight days after USPS announced a major cyber intrusion that potentially compromised the data of approximately 800,000 current and former employees. McGann’s departure, however, was not related to the breach and had been planned, according to a senior USPS official.

  1. “what does it matter”? Jonathan Gruber says Americans are stupid. I wonder what he thinks about postal workers?

  2. So the chief security officer suddenly decides to bail out to work in the private sector eight days after the breach is announced, and there is no connection between his decision and the cyber attack. If you believe the USPS’ claiming there is no co-relation between the two, then you will have believed the Nazi torturers and heads of the SS and the death camps were only following orders.
My ass. Do you postal managers really think your employees and the public are truly that fucking stupid? I think you do. Cover ups like this never work. You told the guy to get the hell out before indictments start flying, and true to your continued stupidity you’re no closer today to solving the crime than you ever were, and I strongly suspect you’re not even seriously trying to.
Furthermore, you’re probably doing everything this side of the law to slow down any investigations, and postponing any action by any means necessary and available.
The Board of Governors will pay for this too if they help you managers responsible cover your collective asses, including Donahoe’s. It’s high time for you managers especially from Districts on up to understand a very important fact: your employees are far far more intelligent than you give us credit for, and infinitely more qualified to run the show. We know however that we’re the only thing that keeps this miserable ship afloat, and simply do not want to commiserate with the caliber of liars, thieves and just plain bad people, period. Birds of a feather.
And while we may be hogtied as far as speaking out except anonymously, the other group you obviously also think are blithering idiots, the customer and Congress will not be hampered by you, and you may very well paying your dues sooner than you think. The investigations into the cyber breach by the NLRB may make national news and you will have a hell of a time convincing anybody you as higher level management were innocent victims along with everybody else.

  3. Should not be be in jail? He’s leaving for the private sector? Liars up to the last nano-second. Who would would hire his lame a..—for massive security breaches? HahahahAhA a….

  4. Too bad the facts aren’t out there. You can’t protect a company against policy breakers. There are no tools to stop stupid people from doing stupid things.

    • Stupidity is incurable and contagious. So is criminal behavior and anti-social tendencies like lying, cheating and snitching to get yourself up the ladder. To rise up in any corporation or organization of much power I think it’s very difficult to retain your integrity and refuse to allow yourself to take part in bad policies and dishonest behavior. Those higher up usually leave trails, have secrets to hide and will think nothing about tossing you out to cover their asses and their buddies’ asses.
We know what happens to whistleblowers these days.
The worst thing about stupidity is that it negatively affects everybody. Be it bad politics, bad religion or whatever, we’re all faced with it every day, and we (stupidly) think everybody else is the stupid one, present company excepted. It’s the refusal to make amends and admit our mistakes that really causes the trouble. Management lost the ability to be guided by conscience and own up to mistakes like adults a long long time ago. The management world is indeed where personal responsibility, integrity and honesty go to die.

  5. Typical.

Once again, a criminal mgmt screw off, screws up, costing the USPS big $.

Once again, they are let off scot-free, with zero accountability.

I’m sure this clown was completely unqualified for the job too, getting it through the usual mgmt route of ass kissing, nepotism, and good old boy network.

What an unethical, corrupt bunch of thieves, liars, an crooks infest the USPS mgmt. ranks, at all levels.

  6. Of course his leaving had been planned and has nothing to do with the hacking, we trust management. NOT! Partenheimer is part of the postal P.R. damage control team, and gets paid to spread disinformation, half-truths and outright lies to help further the cover stories and myths from headquarters. Considering everything that’s happened in the past 5 years, can anyone say R.I.C.O.?
