MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) – Some homeowners in Madison County say their mail carrier fed meatballs with nails in them to their dog.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is investigating, as is the U.S. Postal Service.
The homeowners say they saw the mail carrier throw out something on two separate occasions near the mailbox off Woody Circle. What they say they found next was disturbing. It was a meatball with three nails in it.
Their dog, Missy, who’s outside a lot, had to get a checkup to see if she had swallowed another meatball and sure enough, she had two nails in her stomach.

Really sad, a coward to say the least. Sounds like he’s a real loser.
They should lock this person up with meatballs attached to their clothing in shelter with 50 dogs that haven’t eaten in a few days
This is some sick s…. There is never a good reason for torturing or attempting to torture and/or kill peoples’ pets out on a route. This carrier deserves not just removal, but arrest for cruelty to animals. My home state of Arkansas a few years actually passed a good law for a change, making the penalties for animal cruelty much tougher, with bigger fines and longer jail times if merited.
This Alabama coward deserves both. I had pretty good luck on my routes I carried over my career because I love all animals, and they liked me, even being good buddies with one house with a red chow and a bull mastiff who greeted me every day and waited for me to walk up and visit them for just a minute or two. The owners liked it, and I had many other dogs and cats always eager to see their mailman buddy coming.
Yes, there were some dogs that were loose and did try to bite me, but if I could avoid spraying them I did, and only did so as a last resort or being able to tell the dog wasn’t bluffing – stiff upright tail, raised hackles, no barking – that means they mean business. Nevertheless, it was the fault of the owner of the dogs for not obeying leash laws, and they were the ones that I got mad at. After all, the dog was defending its territory and protecting its family, like it’s supposed to do.
The carrier who put nails in these meatballs is a miserable sadistic piece of s…. I knew some carriers who bragged about doing mean stuff to dogs on their routes, including one truly sick bastard who thought it was funny to go up to fences where the dogs were and not a threat to him in any way, sometimes not even barking at him, and use his pepper spray through the fence on them.
There was no proof outside the fact he bragged about it, but several of us carriers jumped all over his ass and promised we’d call the police on him if we ever found out he did something like that again.
People who abuse animals are no better than child or spousal abusers, either. It takes a special kind of mean spiritedness, a sick fucking mind, and real cowardice to do harm to those unable to defend themselves, especially when the attacker wasn’t provoked. I hope this carrier pays with his job for what he did, and it wouldn’t bother me if he served time and/or got the shit sued out of him either. The last thing we need as letter carriers, current or former, is to have mean bastards like this making us all look terrible.
