10/26/17 House Passes Senate Version of Budget Resolution: No UPMA Benefit Hits
On Thursday morning, October 26, the House of Representatives narrowly approved the Senate’s version of the fiscal year 2018 budget, House Concurrent Resolution 71, as amended by the Senate. The 216-212 vote permits many UPMA members to breathe a sigh of relief for the next few months, since the Senate budget excluded the cuts that were included in the original House-passed budget. However, beginning in January, Congress will renew its assault against federal and postal health and retirement benefits. The reason for the prospective threat is that H.Con.Res 71 adds $1.5 trillion to the federal budget deficit to finance the tax cuts included in the tax reform bill currently under consideration by the House Ways and Means Committee.
According to Roll Call, a Capitol Hill newspaper, “half a dozen Budget Committee members, as well as a few other fiscal hawks in the GOP conference [who were interviewed] anticipate mandatory spending cuts being a priority for the fiscal year 2019 budget reconciliation process.” UPMA legislative activists know that Federal and postal health and retirement benefits are “mandatory spending” programs.

name of that Kevin Spacey movie was “Baby Driver”!
so this is just a temporary bill that was passed ? they can still go after the postal benefits this coming Jan? If so this totally sucks Pray for buy out
funny that the Democrat President Jimmy Carter came out with the 1978 Airline Deregulation Act and 10’s of thousands of union airline workers lost their jobs…….airlines are still in business just as packages will keep moving once the PO is gone. Mr Market has a say in what will happen. you walk around with your head in a smart phone…..yet you cry when Americans want to move away from dead trees delivery system…….its not all about you. American public does not owe you employment at all costs…..wake up from the Democrat propagander. Pam Am, Eastern, Trans World Airlines, US Postal Circus! all in the dust bin of history!
Mr. Gipper, So you think if tax dollars are spent on social programs that is evil. however if the funds are spent on military toys, sports stadiums, tax dollar hand outs to businessmen, and tax cuts to the rich then tax dollars aren’t being thrown away. Most of the social ills are because of “liberal policies”? I suppose the liberals are to blame for the gun violence, never ending wars, business screwing people, pollution, lack of health care that the Ratpublicans are always trying to take away, And global warming that isn’t happening. Read the book “Dark Alliance” by Garry Weber. Find out what Ronald the evil union breaker did to fund his contras in the 80’s. And as for the “lame media” we aren’t to know how we are being screwed!
There is plenty of evil on both sides of the Aisle.
I started in the USPS in january of 1984. Civil Service ended December 31. 1983 and originally the Federal Goverment told us they didn’t know what system we would be under and if you saw my first form 50, it states; Civil Service Offset 1.3%. People don’t realize that FERS didn’t officially start until around 1986. As I have waited very nervously for the decision from Congress I know now that I will be leaving before the next budget is inacted since I will be 56 next year. I know people at work that voted against their own interest and they wanted me to contact my Congressman with them to protect the Supplement and I let them know that I was protecting their interest when I voted in November. I also heard the ones that stated they didn’t mind giving up the Supplement just because they didn’t want anyone to know how dumb they were for voting against themselves. I have never seen anything like what is happen in our country today but believe me, once people start loosing everything and after it is too late they will understand. Yes, quite obviously the system is broken (Two Party that is), they only cater to big money and campaign contributors and don’t listen to the People anymore and the only way to change that is to unite but how can you do that when we have been so masterfully divided? I don’t have the answer but I will pray for those left behind because once you give tax breaks by the party that wanted to close down the Federal Goverment and thought the blowing up the deficit was unthinkable, the cuts will have to come from somewhere and since the tax breaks are going to big business, where do you think the savings will come from?
Trust me, they left us alone just to get a tax bill passed. They can still write in cuts later or even hit us in next year’s budget.
What really pisses me off if you have the time to read the budget proposal is the way they always word it is they are trying to bring our health benefits, retirement benefits and salaries in line with the private sector. What they do not tell the public is that they factor in the ridiculous salaries and retirement benefits of DC politicians (not just the Senators and Congressman) and all the other federal executives that seem to have enough power over OPM to make up their own rules.
There are over 5 million current and retired federal workers that have extended families. I hope they all realize what is happening and get out and vote at midterm and in 2020.
singing a new tune? what happened to your pre-funding rant…..oh yeah more fake news from you!
Just think, the federal employees that voted for Donald Dump and his fellow Ratpublicans endorsed the proposed cuts to Federal employee benefits. How would they like it if the cuts had have come about? At least the rich will receive big tax cuts. The administration has said now business will save much in tax cuts, they will in turn give big pay raises to their employees! what crap. You think business will give employees more pay? They will just hoard the money. Seems the government is loaded with people that are trying to be funny.
Circus…Great post! Thanks.
the market sets your worth in pay and benefits……post office is dying (actor Kevin Spacey even said that in a movie before they planned to rob a PO lol) with your marxist doxie you should move to Russia or Red China. maybe the Clinton Crime Foundation will give you free money lol…..just because they can. just look at Democrat CA & NY liberal tax and spend hell holes.
They’re coming for your benefits eventually.
It just goes to show us that we can never be truly “relieved” that Congress or the Senate are not targeting USPS employees, management and craft for cuts in benefits, retirement contribution levels, pay, etc. The federal employees of this country from the Armed Services, the Postal Service, National Park Service and other agencies are always being threatened by those greedy jerks on Capitol Hill, especially the Republicans, who simply cannot stand the thought of anybody but themselves and the ultra rich having a damn penny to themselves.
We are in a real bind here, because it is becoming more and more obvious that voters who support Trump and the GOP are refusing to admit they are wrong about their politics, and are willing to sacrifice the best interests of themselves and their families in the name of their belligerence and willful stupidity. Better live in near poverty, have nothing but menial low paying jobs with little or no insurance, or the opportunity to ever save a buck for retirement than admit they are wrong about something.
I’m certainly no psychologist or sociologist, but this deliberate refusal to see to reason and prefer to focus instead on emotional and gun rights (everybody ought to have an assault rifle or two, just like George Washington had), racial bias and hate, and no recognition for the need for our kids to be able to attend college, much less have a decent high school education. I know too many people who have no interest in their kids’ educational performance other than to excel in sports. This is indicative of parents who don’t understand scholastic merit, but do understand a round or pointy ball with stripes on the ends. Sports are fine, but in this country, for too many it’s all that matters.
That’s why the GOP stays in power. They know their voters and are experts at pandering to the lowest common denominator. I’ve read articles about “reaching” out to these people, but that’s wishful thinking. I fear only a national calamity the likes of which we’ve never seen such as a Depression that makes the Great Depression of the 1930’s look like a parade, or a truly terrible unjustified war that involves nuclear weapons will be enough to jar some peoples’ thinking. Rather than give rubber stamp approval to those who want to ruin the working class, the right wing voters for once need to understand they are being used, and it isn’t just “liberal” propaganda talking. How we succeed in getting that message across before it’s too late is unknown at least to me. Get the GOP out, save your jobs, retirements and maybe your lives.
I need to edit my post – My sentence should read “. . . this deliberate refusal to see to reason and prefer to focus instead on emotional issues and gun rights . . . racial bias and hate and no recognition for the need for our kids to be able to attend college, much less have a decent high school education is a terrible way to act.”
You’re pretty good at parroting all the talking points of the Bernie Sanders fools. What do the Democrats ever do other than raise taxes on EVERYBODY? It’s their solution to everything. No matter how much is currently being spent, it is never enough. Most of the social ills in the country are because of decades of liberal policies, yet they are supposedly the ones needed to “fix” the problems they created. And what is their solution? Well of course, we’re not spending enough on it, so we need to raise taxes and spend more on it. What did we get for eight years under the divider-in-chief Hussein Obama, other than eight years of anemic economic growth? We were told by the lame media that being unemployed was now a good thing.
That’s why Donald Trump won, and will again. People like you will never understand it, because you are too short-sighted.
Do the math and use a calculator
“Circus never ends tells us, “We are in a real bind here, because it is becoming more and more obvious that voters who support Trump and the GOP are refusing to admit they are wrong about their politics, and are willing to sacrifice the best interests of themselves and their families in the name of their belligerence and willful stupidity. But then listen to The Gipper, he’s right on point. This country has been divided by the Obama Administration and all his cronies, Trump won for a reason! It’s time to take control of the country, stop all the give-aways to those who think they are entitled, and make people start to work for a living, not get hand-outs. Get control of the immigration problem, yes, I said problem. That’s why our taxes are increasing, both income and property tax are on the rise. Schools need more money because of all the “illegal” children in this country that we “have to” educate. I say BS! The sooner Trump gets things under control, the better!
