Video: USPS Mail Truck Catches Fire on Freeway in Santa Ana, CA

 

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Thousands of pieces of mail went up in flames early Tuesday morning after a United States Postal Service truck caught fire in Orange County.

The fire, which fully engulfed the big rig, started just after 1:30 a.m. near North Lamber Road on the 57 Freeway in Santa Ana, the California Highway Patrol said.

Witnesses said the truck appeared to “explode” as it was traveling down the freeway.

It took firefighters about an hour to get the fire under control.

  1. It was a contractor on his way to Ontario airport. He struck another truck that was parked on the side of the road. His right side gas tank struck the side of the container portion of the parked truck and ruptured, spilling fuel under the trailer. The muffler started the fuel on fire. 8 apc’s were lost along with complete distruction of the tractor and trailer.
