APWU: USPS Postpones Consolidations

apwulogo213The Postal Service announced in the Federal Register on Jan. 24 that it is postponing Phase 2 of its latest mail processing consolidation plan, which was slated to begin on Feb. 1. The USPS is also delaying implementation of changes to service standards that would have been necessary if the plants were consolidated.

The USPS will announce the new implementation date in the Federal Register at least 90 days before it takes effect.

“We are pleased by the decision to delay further cuts to the mail processing network,” said APWU President Mark Dimondstein, “but we will continue the fight for a vibrant public Postal Service.

“The Postal Service must find ways to expand and enhance service, not cut it,” he said. “We will work to make that happen and enlist our members and people of this country in that fight.”
