I-4 westbound lanes, I-95 ramps reopen after mail truck jackknifed
VOLUSIA COUNTY — A U.S. Postal Service semi-truck jackknifed and crashed on Interstate West in DeLand early Monday morning.
The Florida Highway Patrol said a trooper was stopped on the shoulder of the roadway, trying to retrieve a large piece of tire off the highway, when the postal truck drove by and swerved to avoid hitting the tire.
FHP said the semi-truck jackknifed and crashed. The crash caused fuel to spill from the semi onto the westbound lanes, troopers said.
Investigators said the driver of the postal service truck, 73-year-old James Derry, suffered minor injuries.
Troopers said no mail was spilled or damaged.

that is not a usps truck. that is what is called a highway contract route truck. This is a truck that a private operator operates for transporting mail. The postal service provides the money for the contracter to purchase, maintain, fuel, taxes insurance, etc, and the says that it is not their truck, because legally it is not “owned” by the usps. This is but one example of how postal management misleads the public.
