12.30.14 An unknown amount of past mail has been discovered on a deceased U.S. Postal Service employee’s former property.

Postal service spokesperson David Walton confirmed the mail was discovered on Bill Martin’s property.

Walton said the Office of Inspector General reviewed the mail and found no evidence of tampering. The mail currently is being sorted and will be released back to the postal service for delivery.

Walton said it is possible some of the mail may be dated advertisements. If so, that mail will be handled according to postal regulations. The rest of the mail will be delivered or returned to its sender in accordance with postal regulations.

“Regretfully, some mail was found in the home of a former employee who retired many years ago and is now deceased,” Walton said. “The mail has just been brought back to the post office and will require some time to sort through it. We will be sending out a letter of apology with an explanation with any mail piece deemed deliverable along with contact information for any customer who may have any questions.”
