Postal workers and community members rally to keep the Pocatello processing center open – file photo from KPVI-TV
August 28,2015 – The mail processing center on Flandro Drive in Pocatello, ID is still used as a post office, transportation hub and bulk mail entry unit.
POCATELLO, ID Local pharmacists said the closure of the U.S. Postal Service processing and distribution center on Flandro Drive has caused delayed delivery of medication for people in outlying counties.
Lorri Shaver, the pharmacy manager at Shaver Pharmacy, said deliveries that used to take two days now take twice as long.
One patient came in on Aug. 11, and his medication had been mailed on Aug. 6, Shaver said. We checked the tracking code, and it had bypassed Salt Lake City and been sent to the processing center in Denver.
Medication that requires refrigeration is shipped by FedEx for a fee of $9.50.
Roger Murphy, pharmacy manager at Ed Snells Pharmacy, said his patrons are also reporting late deliveries.
Murphy said patients in rural areas are dependent on the mail to get their medicine.

Seems the public only cares after the fact. When the mail processing center I worked at was slated to close only one person from the public sector showed up to the two meetings. The press passed our message to them that mail will be delayed but no one cared or was concerned. Now 3 years later the standards have been changed because where they moved the mail to can’t process it over night . When combined with all the gmf’s there is too much for the time needed to process. We saw it coming and no one listened. so Upper Management won’t change anything back and it is only going to get worse. So the old saying we used at Christmas ( Mail Early) well I say it to any one who complains and don’t complain to me call your congressman. They can fix this but the cost would be high.. I would take all the upper management’s salary and bonuses and use that to finance the fix. They broke it they should pay to fix it NOT THE PUBLIC. Bottom line is the people of Pocatello, ID your wasting your time protesting at the post office, MOVE TO YOUR CONGRESS MAN OR WOMAN’S OFFICE. Maybe they will do something other than collect their salary which BTW is direct deposited because they don’t trust the Mail.
