Postal Service hiring over 1100 holiday workers in Springfield MA and Kentuckiana DistrictAlthough Post Offices are closed Monday for the federal holiday, employment applications for the Postal Service’s peak fall and holiday mailing season are open for input via the Internet. The anticipated need is to fill more than 800 jobs in the Springfield MA area.

In Springfield, USPS is currently looking to fill 217 Postal Support Employee (PSE) positions, and 654 Mail Handler Assistant positions. Both have an application deadline of Sept. 8 but positions are continually posted at the Postal Service’s career website at USPS.com/employment

The positions are non-career, with limited benefits and variable work hours and work days, including holidays and weekends. Potential jobs include Postal Support Employees, who perform a variety of duties required to process mail using mail processing equipment or manual methods of sortation and distribution. Mail Handler Assistants also perform a variety of duties, moving the mail via containers and sometimes do it using motorized equipment, loading and unloading vehicles, lifting and carrying.

Post Office jobs in the area are currently posted online at www.usps.com/employment under the “search jobs and apply online section.” Anyone wishing to apply for a specific job must do so within the posted job announcement period. The Postal Service encourages applicants to check the web page often to keep up with any changes in various position openings. Postal Service jobs across the state are posted weekly.

Kentuckiana District

The U.S.Postal Service is accepting applications for holiday seasonal positions at a handful of mail processing facilities in the Kentuckiana District.

Open positions will include support workers and processing clerks.

Approximately 155 temporary holiday positions will be available in Louisville, 45 in Lexington, 50 in Evansville and 10 in Paducah for the period of Nov. 14 through Jan. 8. The hourly wages range from $12 to $15.63 with varying shifts and days off.

The position postings will close on Monday, Sept.14.
