WICHITA, Kan.– The number of animal attacks on U.S. Postal Service mail carriers rose to 27 in Wichita. There were 23 in 2012 and 15 in 2011.
“With the numbers going up, that just gives us more reason to take this action,” said Ryon Knopik, manager at the Munger post office in Northeast Wichita.
The postal service has moved from door-to-door to curbside service in some routes where carriers have been attacked by animals.
“We don’t want to wait for the carrier to get bit and then have to move the box,” said Knopik.
The Wichita Independent Neighborhood Association held a meeting tonight to bring together the Wichita Police Department and the Postal Service to discuss solutions.
