Vandals and thieves are keeping the United States Postal Service very busy around the metro area. Crews are struggling to keep up with the dozens of cluster mailboxes they’re being forced to replace each week.
A USPS spokesperson told KOB they have to replace ten cluster mailboxes every day around Albuquerque and Rio Rancho.
Neighbors in northeast Albuquerque had their community mailbox broken into two weeks ago.
“It looks like they got a crow bar to rip them apart,” said one neighbor. “A lot of them were busted in.”
The USPS just installed a new one a few days ago. It’s fortified with steel to, hopefully, keep crooks out.
“It’s upsetting because there could have been checks sent in the mail from people, and important mail we always get,” said the neighbor.
There’s another new mailbox up the street. The postal service says it’s replacing the cluster mailboxes at a cost of $650 each.
The citizens will pay for this in the end. The agency can use this as reasons to justify cutting that route. Plus claim the boxes are vandalized and this could and may lead to physical harm of an employee as well.
Eradicate the problem or face possible having to travel to your station of record and pick-up your mail or a blank trip for mail.
Remember, this is a service, and not of the right nor privilege variety.
Well, Well isn’t this just great. It looked so nice on paper but in the real world where postal minds don’t have a clue about reality, not surprised, send custodians with some duck tape.
On to more important things, annual leave bid, is it my turn yet?
Do you think that the Postal Service cares about the problems that come with cluster boxes? Hell no! The Postal Service has pride in it’s don’t give a damn attitude. Just look how happy they are to pay out big bucks when they loose an arbitration case.
