3/27/17 Authorities arrested a U.S. Postal Service letter carrier accused of delivering mail in River Ridge while intoxicated — his second mail truck-related DWI in three years and his third DWI arrest since 2012.
Mitchell Molitor, 55, of Metairie, was taken into custody Friday afternoon (March 24) following an investigation by the U.S. Postal Service Office of the Inspector General, according to Special Agent in Charge Jeff Krafels and an arrest report.
At the time of his arrest, Molitor was still on probation from a 2015 DWI conviction and had been ordered to use a device that prevents a vehicle from starting if alcohol is detected on the driver’s breath.
Molitor was delivering mail on his route about 3:30 p.m. Friday in the 9000 block of Rosecrest Lane when he fell to the ground as he tried to get back into his postal truck, an arrest report said. Residents who saw him quickly came over give him a hand.
But as the residents helped him up, they soon noticed Molitor seemed inebriated, the arrest report said. A Louisiana State Police trooper who later responded to the scene noted Molitor was unsteady on his feet, had bloodshot eyes and his breath smelled of alcohol, according to the report.

Legalize weed, it’s safer.
He might retire if he doesn’t die behind the wheel violating his probation again or gets cirrhosis. I can tell of a couple postal people that have serious drinking problems, and maybe more going on than that. It is one thing to try to be understanding and try to help addicts of all kinds, but if they refuse to admit they have an addiction or refuse to get professional help then my “understanding” is greatly diminished, except in cases of those who also have mental illnesses and are homeless, which does happen a lot. My nephew works with the homeless and addicted people and he can tell you firsthand that some people get themselves into the situations they’re in through nobody’s fault but their own, but others are genuinely sick people who couldn’t afford treatments, keep a job or whatever and society lumps these folks in with the ones who could but won’t clean up their acts. I don’t know for sure, but this carrier is obviously an alcoholic, but it remains to be seen if it’s self inflicted due to stupidity or not. My concern is that he and others like him endanger the safety and lives of all of us and are too selfish to even stay off the streets. That I have no patience or tolerance for.
What a shock!!! A drunk Mailman how rare is that….Hee Hee
Sorry the poor mailman needed a stiff one to face the stress on the job.
In truth he is human and no worse a person than in far more important jobs.
many persons in more leadership positions do everything under the sun and get
a bonus on top of it.
This is ridiculous. At 55 years, if he started when I did back in the early 1980’s, 1984 for me, he could be a year away from being eligible for retirement. I took mine when I was eligible at 56 this year, and because I was able to contribute to TSP, my wife being disabled couldn’t have children meaning it’s been just the two of us, I was in good enough financial shape to call it a day.
But when you do stupid shit like drink until you’re wasted on your route, use or deal drugs, and I know specifically of that going on in my former office, especially with meth, or steal, you are throwing away your benefits, retirement, etc. if you’re successfully fired. This guy didn’t learn his lesson, and a lot of people don’t.
If he has family, has he thought about what this means for them? Or anybody delivering mail or working at any job who think it’s much more important to be blitzed, stoned or zonked on methamphetamine than be responsible for their actions and prepare for their futures? Maybe they do, but are afraid of getting help or admitting they have serious problems. Addiction is terrible, and the one way to end it is to want to be sober or clean more than you want to be trashed.
I used to drink and I was letting it get control of me 24 years ago but when I met my wife to be, knowing she was not a drinker, and loving her very much I knew I had to make a decision for a successful marriage and having a loving wife or sticking with that damn booze. I quit drinking cold turkey, just as I had quit pot smoking several years earlier, and I have never had a hit or a drink since then. Was it easy? No. But it was worth it. Get help. It’s out there, and I want to remind people who are hiding their drinking problems, or drug problems – it is selfish, and you pose a direct danger not just to yourself and family, but to every person you pass on the road when you’re shit faced and looking for another bag of meth. That stuff is rampant – we letter carriers literally watch people rot away in such a short time, and it’s not hard to tell when they’re on meth. There’s far far more of it out there than people think. I can’t imagine the damage it’s doing to their brains and internal organs. A meth addict can quit today and never use it again, but if they’ve been on it for very long, the damage is there and as they age they will find their nervous systems are rotting as is their immune systems. Sad.
Must have been in on an off day.
He will soon have his license suspended by LA, another LOW issued by the Postal Service. He then return to work soon after with full pay and benefits. This time he would have a CCA chauffered him around in his appointed route, since he’s on ODL the CCA would piggy back on his hours too. This goes on for the duration of the suspension of his LA driver’s licence, which in his third offense is 10 yrs; By then, he would be eligible for full retirement after 38 yrs of service if he so choose.
