NALC statement on Trump, GOP failure to repeal Obamacare

trumpcare

President Donald Trump and Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) withdrew the American Health Care Act (AHCA) before a scheduled vote in the House of Representatives on Friday. The GOP leadership’s bill to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act—also known as Obamacare—was expected to lose handily in the House. Polls showed that only 17 percent of Americans supported it, and a massive wave of constituent opposition convinced the Republicans to suspend, at least for now, efforts to repeal the landmark 2010 health care reform law.

The controversial AHCA, introduced just three weeks ago without any public hearings or bipartisan support, would have eliminated insurance coverage for 24 million Americans and deregulated the private insurance market. It would have also raised deductibles and increased insurance premiums dramatically—including those paid by letter carriers—by shifting the cost of health care for the uninsured to those with insurance.

NALC President Fredric Rolando issued the following statement:

“This is good news for millions of working families. Thanks to all the NALC activists who answered the call to weigh in with their members of Congress to oppose this destructive bill. Let us hope that, after seven long years of partisan warfare over our health care system, the two parties can finally start working together to fix the problems with the Affordable Care Act without throwing away the progress we’ve made since 2010.”

  1. The Ratpublicans just will invent another plan to screw the People of America. So some people think that health care is a form of welfare, or a redistribution of wealth. Same could be said of your health insurance. How about taxpayers being forced to pay school taxes for your children? Why not pay for the cost of your children’s education out of your wages instead of depending on taxpayers? Oh I forgot some people love to receive and not give to others! If the Postal Service cuts employment then some of you will find out about welfare and wealth redistribution!

  2. It could have been worse, folks. If Ted Cruz were president Obamacare, would have been gone, within about a week of his inauguration? To make matters worse Ted Cruz, would likely used “Executive-(Presidential) Orders”,to bring all junk-foods,back to public school cafeterias;further increasing the hugely expensive medical costs of childhood and adolescent obesity. I’d gladly take four or even eight-years of President Trump, over even,one-day of a president Ted Cruz.

  3. Sure Fred. Obamacare has been a blessing to small businesses. How about you focus on the contract? Oh wait. That’s not important for your membership. We will once again be happy with 1%.

  4. Please let’s now make sure we fight the bill that forces Postal employees to go on medicare. Let’s win on that too!

  5. “It would have also raised deductibles and increased insurance premiums dramatically—including those paid by letter carriers—by shifting the cost of health care for the uninsured to those with insurance.”

What the heck is going on currently, if not that those with insurance are paying for those who don’t have it, or subsidizing those who don’t. The NALC needs to expose the Blowbama care for what it is, redistribution of wealth, and nothing more than welfare.

  6. Problem is Obamacare is going to implode. Who will get the blame? The Dems who rammed it down the throats of the American People or the Reps who could not get the votes to pass something to replace it. I guess how the mainstream media reports on it will decide.

  7. OhomoCare will implode within 12 months……..faster than Thug Rolando can get you that 1% raise lol.

  8. Rolando, quit being a usps spokesman, and start working for us for a change !!!! Where’s our contract ????

  9. Well, this is good news indeed although we must not put our guards down because the Koch brothers, a pair of truly vile evil rich bastard assholes if there ever were any are hell bent on ruining this country for everybody but the rich and when they say “jump” the GOP reaches for the moon.
What is so perplexing is the inability for people who vote for horrible people like Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, Donald Trump and other Republican lawmakers to recognize what they are doing to themselves because they believe whatever FOX News and right wing media tells them to think. They hate minorities, and the terrible way the GOP acts toward them (minorities) gives the equally hateful voters some strange justification for being so intolerant, selfish and violent.
These people do not understand how they worship a party and ideology designed to wipe them out. Religious leaders pay off GOP members in D.C. to protect their non-profit status, and continue to make billions from gullible morons tax free. Most of them are just as racist, hate filled and evil as the politicians are. The Republican leadership isn’t stupid – what better way to solidify their base than wrap the Christian flag around themselves too? That way they can claim “God” and Jesus as Republican patriots, and who’s going to argue about that in the fanatical Christian right world?
If the incredible hatefulness and contempt for all Americans not already ultra rich and powerful demonstrated by Paul Ryan when he tried to wipe out the ACA and thus bankrupt millions of people who get sued by hospitals when they can’t pay the horrendous bills or die because they can’t get insurance or treatment wasn’t obvious, then those people were either rich hate mongers of all people not filthy rich like them, regardless of race, age, religion, or anything else, or so blinded by their own gullibility they couldn’t be made to understand what was going on.
Most people who opposed the ACA outside the insurance and medical industry did so because Barack Obama was the one who got it through, and because he was black, had an Arab sounding name and was a helluva lot smarter than those opposed to the ACA, they were dead set against it and by extension dead set against their own best interests. One hopes the country will continue to fight against this most criminal and hateful Republican party until they’re sent packing before the middle and lower classes are destroyed.

    • It is no surprise that “no surprise” is totally wrong on his point. The Democrat’s favorite targets, the Koch brothers, have actually done quite a bit as far as employing Americans and actually were instrumental in strong arming a few Republicans into not supporting the obamacare repealing this past week. Funny, like the typical mindless liberals, he goes on and on about those “truly vile evil rich bastard assholes” Koch brothers, but will never say anything about the truly vile, evil rich bastard asshole George Soros, the ultra rich supporter of all things liberal. Anyway, back to the forum. Government should just stay out of healthcare. It is not a right, but a privilege, not different than car or home insurance. All they have to do is allow more competition, and stop the illegal redistribution of wealth, which is all obamacare is really about.

    • Saul Goodman,
Are the U.S. citizens lying when they share with the American People that until ACA/Obamacare they had nothing or poor coverage. So many stated their relatives would be dead if not for the ACA/Obamacare program, are they lying, mainly because its so many families agreeing to this.

  10. It’s a great day that the Ratpublican Dump Care plan failed! Though it only failed because the plan didn’t cut more. The Ratpublicans only want to provide for the wealthy and business. They feel that it’s every man for themselves. And if one falls to the side, tough! The Ratpublicans hate the thought of tax payer funds going to citizens, however you can never give enough funds for wealthfare. Why should someone rich pay when they can suck off the taxpayer. I just can’t understand why tax payers are responsible for educating children, while as for healthcare it’s everyman for themselves? If tax payer funded healthcare is “evil” then taxpayer funded education is also “evil”. America needs our own Tommy Douglas to fashion healthcare. Bernie!

    • I personally feel that the NALC President has held the real truth from the postal employees and retirees for too long. He should be ashamed to try and force this mess down our life’s throat and expect the postal employees and retirees to be happy with this garbage and his lying in front of congress. Rolando the rules states you do no harm to anyone never attempting to harm you. Now it appears from your words no regard for postal people well being and therefore you know the consequences, you crossed the line and may God have mercy on your hellhound soul for harming defenseless people who you and four others are sworn to protect and represent.

  11. Fred wants to force retirees into Failing Medicare….Don’t support Bill 756….Where’s the the Contract with the 1.5 percent raises per year, that will be offset by nalchp increases what a joke…We need the Teamsters they get there people real raises do you know any poor UPS guys?..I know plenty of poor mailmen…Unless you live in some hellhole in Missouri you can’t support a family…With the shitty pay for double the work we used to do…Freddy membership is Fred up……
