Postal Unions urge Congress to reject any proposal that weakens USPS

In a letter urging Senators and Representatives to reject any proposal that would weaken the Postal Service, the National Presidents of the four Postal Unions collectively object to a proposal to use the United States Postal Service as an offset to fund the federal highway trust fund.

The letter to House and Senate Leadership begins:

On behalf of the nearly 650,000 active and retired employees of the U.S. Postal Service represented by our four unions, we write to express our firm opposition to using the United States Postal Service as an offset to fund the nation’s transportation infrastructure. Last week, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor announced a GOP leadership plan to eliminate Saturday mail delivery service as a means to “pay for” a short‐term replenishment of the federal highway trust fund, which is in rapid decline and is expected to run out of money in August. This outrageous and misguided proposal is totally unacceptable and we urge you to oppose it should the idea be presented in the Senate.

Slashing mail delivery service makes no sense in any circumstance, but especially as part of legislation designed to strengthen our nation’s transportation infrastructure. The USPS is off‐budget and receives no taxpayer support whatsoever. Using the Postal Service as an offset for the Highway Trust Fund is a shell game that relies on illusory savings and accounting gimmicks.

  1. Cantor, Paul, Issa, Boehner, or Ryan aka (Abe Lincoln
wihout the beard) are all far right wacko’s with very
scary intentions for the direction of this country.
Eric Cantor and his buddies are trying to rob Peter
to pay Paul to offset a highway trust fund that they
fell asleep at the wheel on. This ludicrous behavor
is common place for anyone of these bafoons. Some of
them are running for president in 2016 so be very afraid
that the incredibly brain washed right doesn’t gain
enough momentum to elect one of these asylum credible
individuals to dictate your future. The world is crazy
enough without having to consider anyone of these unstables.
The people have to elect so the gullibility factor and the B.S.
thrown their way to assure election ( the proverbial say
what they want to hear) allows whether or not educated
or intelligent individuals with no common sense to pursue
political careers that effect our lives. The adage there is
a fine line between sanity and insanity keeps me up at night
because these individuals fit the bill.

  2. Do I read correctly? The 4 unions actually created a cogent response to wacko Issa’s Enronesque phony/baloney accounting scheme?
